Bihar: Coronavirus suspect kept in isolation ward of Gaya hospital - Times of India

GAYA: A 20-year-old youth of the Manpur locality in Gaya, suspected to be affected by the Coronavirus, was on Wednesday referred to the isolation ward of the Anugrah Narain Magadh Medical College Hospital here. The youth had earlier on 11 January returned from China. The young man has been pursuing a course in Chinese language there.
Confirming the hospitalisation of the Coronavirus suspect, Gaya civil surgeon Dr BK Singh said that on his arrival, the youth escaped scanning at the airport and managed to go home. The young man is suffering from cold, cough and fever, the three symptoms of the virus that has caused havoc in China. Sample collected from the youth has been sent for virological test and till the receipt of the test report, he will remain in the isolation ward, the CS said.
Following the spread of Coronavirus in China, Gaya airport was put on alert and facility for the scanning of foreign passengers vulnerable to the virus has been installed. A medical team with required kits has also been deputed at the airport to scan passengers. Bodh Gaya is an important destination FOR mainland Chinese nationals and at any given point of time, residents of mainland China can be found in the seat of Buddha's enlightenment.
Earlier, health officials established a 20-bed isolation ward to quarantine Coronavirus suspects. The Civil Surgeon claimed that the isolation ward protocol including biological mask for health workers and single use personal protection kit was being religiously maintained. According to the Civil Surgeon health staff deputed at the airport as well as isolation ward are under strict instruction to maintain hand hygiene and regularly use sanitisers.
This is the second Coronavirus suspect referred to the isolation ward of the ANMMCH. Earlier, a young man from Bodh Gaya, also a student of Chinese language was kept in the isolation ward. Following negative test report, the Bodh Gaya youth was discharged from the hospital.
