The youth, according to the hospital superintendent Dr VK Prasad came to the hospital OPD complaining of common cold, fever and cough.
As the young man, a student of Chinese language returned from China a few weeks back, the doctors put him under observation in the recently established isolation ward for coronavirus suspects and patients. Health parameters of the patient were satisfactory, said the superintendent.
According to civil surgeon Dr BK Singh, the required tests as per the medical protocol have been conducted and the reports were awaited. Follow up action will be taken once the report is available.
Asked about the precautions being exercised by doctors and paramedical staff engaged in the screening exercise at the Gaya airport, the civil surgeon said that biological masks have been provided to all health staff engaged in screening work. They have also been directed to give top priority to hand hygiene and regular use of sanitisers.
The doctors visiting the isolation ward to observe the patient put in the isolation ward have been provided with single use personal protection kit containing 6 items including apron and foot wear.
RTI activist Brijnandan Pathak demanded the maintenance of the standard protocol of isolation wards that require single bed wards, a minimum of 200 sq ft area per patient, air changing facility, availability of all the required kits, complete sterilisation of the entire isolation area and complete insulation of doctors and para medical staff on isolation ward duty not to be deputed in any other patient care area.
