Panic at Gaya airport as two passengers having coronavirus symptoms land - Times of India

GAYA: Near panic prevailed at the Gaya airport as two passengers showing coronavirus symptoms landed at Gaya airport on Saturday afternoon. The coronavirus suspects came from Bangkok in Thai Smile Airways. Both the suspects are said to be residents of Gorakhpur UP. The purpose of their Thai visit was not known at the time of reporting.
Prompt crew members alerted airport officials and on arrival, the suspects were immediately segregated and taken out of the airport through a separate exit gate.
Dispelling rumours that the coronavirus suspects managed to escape from the airport and left for undisclosed destination, the Gaya District Magistrate said that full proof arrangements have been made at the airport and the question of someone dodging the officials simply does not arise.
According to the District Magistrate Abhishek Singh, two of travellers have been sent to the isolation ward of the ANMMCH. Samples of blood and throat swab of the suspects would be sent to the Virological lab for proper testing, said the DM. Initial reports put the number of coronavirus suspects at five, said Singh.
Altogether 12 passengers arrived by the Thai Smile Airways flight. All other passengers of the flight have been advised home isolation. They have been asked to strictly follow the social distancing protocol. Reports say that the passengers also took some medicine in the flight to fight fever and reduce temperature at the time of thermal scanning.
Meanwhile, ANMMCH Superintendent Dr Vijay Krishna Prasad did not receive calls made at his official number about the condition of the isolated air passengers. However, sources say that the duo suffered from high fever and respiratory problems.
The district administration has created facility to quarantine suspects in two Bodh Gaya hotels.
According to Airport Director Dilip Kumar, the Thai Smile plane was thoroughly disinfected and it subsequently took off for Bangkok with 120 passengers, all of them foreign nationals.
