Myanmar airline suspends Gaya operations - Times of India

GAYA: The Myanmar National Airlines on Wednesday suspended its operations on the Yangon-Gaya route. The airlines took the decision in view of the global outbreak of Covid-19 virus.
According to a letter issued by an airlines official, flights will remain cancelled from March 18 to April 20. Earlier on Tuesday, Thai Air Asia suspended operation of its flights on the Bangkok-Gaya route. Confirming the suspension of flights by Thai Air Asia and Mynamar National Airlines, Gaya airport director Dilip Kumar said, “Air India too will suspended operation of its flights on Yangon-Gaya route from March 23 onwards.”
The airport director made it clear that Air India will continue its operations in the domestic sector on the Gaya-Delhi route. “Indigo flights too, in the domestic sector will continue,” said Kumar.
Earlier, the Union health ministry on March 16 and 17 issued advisories to the airport authorities. As per the advisory issued on March 16, visitors from or transiting through UAE, Qatar, Oman and Kuwait have to be put under mandatory quarantine for a period of 14 days. This is applicable also to Indians working in these countries. A sizeable number of people from Bihar and Jharkhand disembark at the Gaya airport.
The advisory further stated that travel of passengers from Afghanistan, Philippines and Malaysia stands prohibited immediately. A couple of days back, two Bodh Gaya hotels have been notified for mandatory quarantine of people, who have recently been to seven countries including China, Italy, France, Germany and Spain.
According to Gaya district magistrate Abhishek Singh, Hotel Siddharth Vihar and Hotel Lumbini have been notified for the purpose of quarantining people, who have been to high risk countries. “Quarantine protocol would be maintained at these places. Besides the quarantine hotels, a properly equipped isolation ward too was in place,” the DM said.
Screening of domestic travellers too has been made mandatory at the airport. Proper tracking of people who may have come in contact with high risk passengers was being done with the help of the passenger data available with the railways too.
On Tuesday, Thai Smile Airways landed at Gaya airport with just two passengers. The airlines left with 128 passengers and all of them were foreign tourists or pilgrims.
Earlier on Monday, two international flights—Myanmar Airways International and Myanmar National Airlines—landed at the Gaya airport with no passenger. Air India Yangon-Gaya-Kolkatta had only one passenger. The Indigo Kolkata-Gaya-Kolkata flight had 17 passengers. Indigo Kolkata-Gaya-Varanasi flight landed with 29 passengers.
