Gaya: 96 officers inducted into Indian Army - Times of India

GAYA: Altogether 96 officers were formally inducted into the Indian army on Saturday at a ceremonial function that included the Passing Out Parade and pipping ritual. The function was held in the Gaya Officers Training Academy premises off NH 83.
The inductees belong to two different categories. 87 are direct recruits, who, after getting a year long basic military training at the Gaya OTA successfully completed a three years long course in Military Engineering at institutes located in Secunderabad, Mhow and Pune. Four cadets from Bhutan also received training at the OTA and they too participated in the Passing out Parade.
9 of the officers come from lower ranks of the army to get inducted as Special Commissioned officers. Of the 9 SCOs, five belong to the Assam Rifles.
66 future officers of the army, who got year long basic military training proceeded to pursue a three years long degree course in military engineering at institutes located in Secundrabad, Mhow and Pune.
Lt General Ngo Minh Tien, Chief of General Staff, Vietnam People’s Army was the Reviewing Officer of the parade. The Reviewing Officer arrived at the venue in a majestic horse drawn carriage, escorted by smartly dressed mounted horse riders. He was received by the Chief Host Lt Gen PC Thimmaya, GOC-in-C, Army Training Command. The Parade was reviewed by the Reviewing Officer and Lieutenant General Sunil Shrivastava, Commandant, Officers’ Training Academy Gaya.
An award ceremony was also held. The prestigious Sword of Honour was awarded to Wing Cadet Captain Shivam Singh.
Addressing the newly inducted officers, the Vietnamese Chief of General Staff praised the Cadets for presenting an excellent drill. Lt General Tien exhorted them to do everything to bring glory to their nation as well as the Alma Mater. He also urged them to imbibe the virtues of military ethos and soldierly qualities.
The reviewing officer also Congratulated the parents of the young officers and said that being amongst the lucky few whose offsprings will get the opportunity to serve in one of the noblest professions i.e. the profession of defending the nation, they (parents) are to be envied and held in awe.
Gaya OTA was raised on 18 July’2011 with ‘Shaurya, Gyan, Sankalp’ ( Bravery, knowledge and Resolve) as its Motto. The Academy conducts training for Technical Entry Scheme (TES) and Special Commissioned officers (SCO). The TES cadets join after completing their class XII Exams with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as subjects of study. The SCOs are selected from among the army ranks. The SCOs are indicted after one year basic military training. The TES cadets, after getting year long basic military training are enrolled at colleges conducting courses in Military Engineering.
