Gaya Gurudwara body secretary demands arrest of Bhindarawale supporters - Times of India

GAYA: Pritam Singh Bagga, secretary of the Gaya Gurudwara Saheb committee has demanded immediate arrest of the supporters of separatist leader and Khalistan protagonist Jarnail Singh Bhindrawale. Bagga has alleged that the pro Bhindrawale elements were active in Gaya and regularly hold meetings in the Gurudwara.
In a statement sent to TOI on WhatsApp, the shrine body secretary said that the Bhindarawale supporters were a threat to peace in the city. Criminal case under Section 153(a), 153(b) and 504 of the IPC was registered against seven persons including Bhagwan Singh, president of the Gaya Gurudwara committee for displaying Bhindarawale posters and raising slogans in favour of the terrorist who was killed during Operation Blue Star in June 1984. The then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was assassinated four months later by her bodyguards owing allegiance to Bhindarawale.
Bagga alleged that the case accused had threatened him and his son. Bagga, in the statement, also alleged that the pro Bhindawale supporters objected to him (Bhindarawale) being called a terrorist and rather projected him as a martyr of the Sikh religious cause who attained ‘martyrdom’ during ‘Dharam Yudh’ (religious war).
It may be recalled that the presence of pro Bhindrawale elements in Gaya came to light on 11 November 2019 during the religious procession taken out on the eve of the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism. Bhindrawale posters were subsequently seized on the orders of Gaya DM Abhishek Singh.
Asked about Sikh body secretary’s demand for the arrest of Bhindrawale supporters, city DSP Raj Kumar Sah said that an order had been passed for the arrest of the accused. The culprits were absconding, said the officer, adding that they would soon be brought to justice.
