Coronavirus: Virological test report awaited, no survey of China returnees in Gaya - Times of India

GAYA: Virological report of a youth, Chinese language student who recently returned from China and has been kept in the isolation ward of the Anugrah Narain Magadh Medical College, is awaited and follow up action would be taken only after the receipt of the lab report.
When contacted, ANMMMCH Superintendent Dr VK Prasad said that the lab report is expected anytime now. Asked whether the sample for virological test has been sent to Pune, the Superintendent said that he sent the sample to Patna and did not have any idea about the lab where the tests have actually been done.
About the condition of the coronavirus suspect kept in the hospital’s isolation ward, the superintendent said that all the health parameters of the young man were satisfactory and there was little to worry about. Everything now depended on the final report, said the superintendent. The coronavirus suspect was referred to the isolation ward on Tuesday as he complained of cold, cough and fever, the three symptoms of the deadly disease. The young man only recently returned from China.
Earlier too, a Bodh Gaya youth, also a Chinese language student who returned from China made a similar complaint. But the virological test report was found negative and subsequently he was discharged from the hospital.
Meanwhile, the health administration is unaware of the number of people, locals as well as outsiders who have recently been to China. Asked whether any survey has been conducted in the district to ascertain and identify the people who have been to China either as students or tourism/business purposes, civil surgeon Dr BK Singh said that no such survey has been conducted.
Some information has been collected from the two suspects who were kept in the isolation ward, said the Civil Surgeon. Information about the people from mainland China presently staying in Bodh Gaya too was not available with health officials.
The failure of the health officials to prepare a database of people who have been to China recently has caused concern among the people. According to activist Shri Bhagwan Bhaskar, the failure to prepare a data base shows the health administration in a poor light.
At least information about people from mainland China staying in Bodh Gaya could have been easily collected as such visitors are required to submit online information through form C to the district level Foreign Registration office giving personal details, said the activist.
